Here are some important tips you should know when registering your child for this program:
The Junior Federated Women’s Club of Chester is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to positively affecting the lives of residents in and around Chester, Virginia. We actively contribute to our community whether it be volunteering our time or collecting donations, supporting various areas including education, health, and home life.
We believe that by improving early education in our community, we can contribute to the lifelong success of the children within Chesterfield County. That is why we are proud to partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide free books to children (age 0-5) within the 23234 zip code of Virginia.
Did you know, the number of words a child knows by the time they enter Kindergarten, is a key predictor of their future success? Having access to books and reading aloud builds literacy skills, language and brain development. With 90% of a child’s brain developed by the age of 5, this program reaches children during a critical time in their education.
Each child enrolled in the program will receive one new, age appropriate book until his/her 5th birthday. Books are selected each year by a committee of early childhood education experts, ensuring each book will continue to enhance the child’s education/experience and represents one of the many predetermined themes. This allows families to build an age appropriate home library at no cost to them.
The partnership between Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Junior Federated Women’s Club of Chester will serve over 3,000 students age 0 to 5 in the 23234 zip code. Any parent living within this zip code, regardless of family income, may sign up their child to receive books.
